One of these photos was taken with a high-end Canon 24-70mm "L" series lens costing hundreds and hundreds of dollars. The other photo was taken with a plastic Canon 28-80mm "kit" lens I purchased on eBay, along with a 35mm film camera body, for... and no, I am not making this up... forty cents!

Which is which? (Click through to the full-size version at Flickr if you like; but no fair peeking at the EXIF data!)

LENS B:

NOTE: the light shifted a bit due to cloudy skies. I will have to try this experiment again under more consistent conditions.

My wife and I like LENS A better. The image looks more crisp, although we had to toggle back and forth a couple of times, and focus on areas not over affected by the change in cloud cover.

Lens A took the photo that captured the most nuances of color, shade & texture, therefore I am submitting my guess-which-is-more-expensive-entry as:

LENS B

A is sharp and hard, saturated and unforgiving. The cheap one.
B is soft and fuzzy, toned down and slower. The expensive one.

I like B best here. But in another instance, a different scenery A might fit better.
