For those of you who may have forgotten, I am currently living in The Year Of My Death As Foretold By A Ouija Board. When I was seven or eight or nine years old, one of Willaim Fuld's Talking Boards, in response to a query, suggested the age I would be at the time of my demise. I have always remembered that number. If the oracle was accurate, and I can think of no reason why it wouldn't be, I'm in the home stretch, with a bit less than four weeks remaining to my alloted span.
Just in time, as, perhaps, "a lovely parting gift" from the universe, I received this notice in my email in-box:
[NaNoWriMo] A week three pep talk from Neil Gaiman
A personal message from My Favorite Author! Well, "personal" to the extent that a generic form email sent to 90,000 NaNoWriMo participants can be considered personal. Still... who'd a thunk... a message from Neil (I figure by this time we're on a first-name basis) sent to me!
Coincidentally... or as part of the ongoing plot to crush my soul and drive me starkers, ivy_rat posted at LJ yesterday wishing her good friend Neil a happy birthday, and she provided a link to a Comic-con forum transcript in which a participant (aka snow_k) declares Neil to be "hot."
Anyway, I can now cast off this mortal coil blissfully happy, content and at peace. I have no further need of the remaining three and a half weeks. Let the end draw nigh, for I am ready.
Footnote: "Colossal Ego" or "Savvy Marketing"? My good buddy Neil is the only Well Known Author so far to have promoted one of his or her own novels by title in a NaNoWriMo "pep talk" email. It's cleverness like this, I suspect, that makes him "hot" both on and off the presses!
