Sometimes a Cigar is Just a Cigar

Last week I showed the 4th-grade students how to fold a little booklet out of a single sheet of paper. I actually just learned this impressive skill the preceding week myself.

Then I asked them to write and illustrate a short story in their booklets.

They resisted.

"Resistance is futile," I told them. "And you'd better finish yours by the time I finish mine."

Which meant I had to make one, too.

I'm afraid that Emily Elizabeth and Clifford have already taken care of Madeline.

Ah! We wondered why Miss Clavel was riding her bike along a Kansas road with Clifford in the bike basket . . .
