The Powerbook problem: failing hard drive.
Repairs are still covered under the AppleCare warranty, so there will be no charge for the repair. The parts have to be ordered, and will take five to seven working days to arrive. So I'll be without my Powerbook for at least a week, and more likely two weeks.
The Apple Store will attempt a data transfer, but no guarantees.
I recently backed up most of my Flickr photos, which is a relief. I dunno about replacing software, especially stuff that I downloaded from the interwebs.
Losing all my email addresses would be a bit of an inconvenience as well. And it will be sad to lose all the scintillating emails I've received over the past couple of years, and the numerous text files I've saved. I think I backed up some of that stuff on my external drive.
I guess I'd better start backing things up more regularly. Which, of course, is a good reason to upgrade to the Leopard OS, which has, so I understand, some fancy new easy-archiving features.
Anyway... yeah... boring, I know.
