Fire, Flood, Whatever....

Hurricane Flossie is bearing down on us, and there's a thousand-acre brushfire raging at the edge of town. Just another glorious day in paradise!

We were just up on the rooftop deck of a neighbor's house watching the fire. It's a couple of miles away and the wind is pushing it toward the mountains and away from town. As darkness falls it's an impressive sight. To those people whose homes are closer to the blaze (there's a small gated community near the path of the fire), "impressive" may not be the first choice of vocabulary.

The hurricane is expected to weaken over the next few days before reaching the islands, and to pass considerably south of land. The Big Island may experience heavy rains. Little impact is expected on the rest of the islands.
